Paint Paint Paint...

All I have done to the new house in the last week really is paint. I have painted many many times before, and I can honestly say I hate the brand paint I bought with a passion. I typically use Porter Paints, and have had a great experience with that paint. It covers well and goes on easily and smoothly. However, this time I had a coupon. So I went with Behr paint, at its slightly lower price point and with the 20% off coupon I saved somewhere in the $75-$100 range. But it does not cover or go on smoothly at all resulting in more coats to get a good looking paint job. One gallon should easily do 2 coats in my bedrooms, but that has not happened. So I am having to buy more paint for each room, costing more money and causing more work and taking up more of my time. Buy the time I get done painting I will not have saved anything. The colors have turned out wonderfully so far though.

My dad also G's bathroom tiled and I am so happy with my choice of tile, which will be in both bathrooms and in the kitchen and dining room.
The tile before it was grouted.
Hopefully in the next week we can get the bathroom finished out and get the hardwood down in the bedrooms so that we can start moving in some furniture and begin at least sleeping in the house instead of the camper at my mom & dad's.

I bought a new house.

The New House
So as part of my starting over process, I moved. I sold the old house that we had remodeled together while engaged and lived in for our entire marriage. It was full of many memories, some that I no longer wanted to be reminded of and some that I was sad to leave behind. It was my son's first home, where we brought him home from the hospital to. It was the only home he has ever known and it has been hard on his little 2 year old self to process this move. I think it has been made even harder by the fact that we currently are not in the new house yet.

The new house was VERY outdated and needs some renovations and remodeling to get it where I want it to be. It was built in the early 80s and everything in it was still the original stuff. Lots of paneling and nasty old carpet. The roof had a few leaks but mostly it is just cosmetic. I closed on it a little over a week ago and had to be out of the old house that same day. So Little G and I are shacking up with my parents in their camper until the remodel has progressed to the point where we can move in.

Little G has been very excited about the new house and getting to help with the work. He has told me pretty much since we first started talking about getting a new house that he wanted a blue room with red tractors for decor. I have found some adorable International Harvester fabric and will be attempting to make him some curtains and decorative pillows. I have also taken some high res tractor photos and photoshopped them slightly to make the coloring more consistent and plan on getting them printed as posters.
G is also enjoying the more openness of the new house and the land that comes with it. We have gone from a 1,050 sq.ft. 2 bedroom/2 bath on 1 acre to a 1,400 sq.ft. 3 bedroom/2 bath on 5 wooded acres.

The remodel plan for the new house is all new flooring - bamboo & tile- and new paint. G's bathroom will get a complete overhaul with new vanity and toilet. The paneling has all disappeared in favor of drywall and the kitchen cabinets will be painted and get new counter tops. So far it's been a lot of hard work, but the tear out is almost complete and then we can get to work on putting the new stuff in. I will continue to update as it progresses.

So here I am, attempting to blog.

I am not a writer by any means, but here I am trying this blog thing out. I may not have the best grammar or punctuation, and if it wasn't for the little red squiggly line my spelling would be atrocious. Hopefully, anyone that reads this can look past it and still understand the point I am trying to make.
